RESONANCE
TRAINING COLLECTIVE
A training collective for dancers who want to grow - as dancers, artists, and people.
RESONANCE is a 5-month dance training program built around movement, creative exploration, and the relationships we build with one another.
It’s for dancers who want consistent training, deeper skill development, and a community that challenges them to grow without asking them to become someone else in the process.
We train predominantly in Commercial and Hip Hop-based movement, while drawing from a range of street and club styles through guest workshops and creative exploration.
why RESONANCE?
RESONANCE is what happens when one thing responds to the energy or vibration of another. We also use the word to describe something that reaches us, moves us, or connects with something within us. We believe we grow through our relationships with other people; through being witnessed, challenged, inspired, and changed by what we encounter. Movement is the channel that brings us together, but the exchange between people is what makes the experience meaningful.
We move alongside one another, we respond to one another, and through that exchange, we come to know ourselves more deeply.
That is RESONANCE.
what is the training like?
RESONANCE follows a consistent weekly training structure, while leaving room for the work to evolve with the people in the room.
FULL-BODY WARM-UP + CONDITIONING
Preparing the body for movement while building physical capacity, coordination, and awareness.
TECHNICAL SKILL-BUILDING
Targeted exercises that develop the tools behind the movement — including grooving dynamics, textures, musicality, execution, coordination, and movement quality.
CREATIVE EXPLORATION + FREESTYLE
Structured opportunities to experiment, improvise, and develop your own movement language through prompts, task-based exercises, and guided exploration.
CHOREOGRAPHY
Learning and performing choreography primarily rooted in Commercial and Hip Hop movement, with an emphasis on musicality, retention, execution, performance quality, and individual expression.
MORE THAN A DANCE CLASS
RESONANCE isn’t a performance program or competitive team, and it isn’t about creating one “ideal” type of dancer.
There is structure. There is challenge. There is accountability. And we take the training seriously. But we also recognize that people learn, move, and grow differently.
You are encouraged to push yourself, take risks, try things that feel unfamiliar, and develop your skills, while having agency over how you engage with that process.
We care about creating an environment where you can show up as a whole person, and where witnessing and being witnessed by others can become part of how you discover yourself as an artist.
We want you to become a more capable, adaptable, expressive, and self-aware dancer, and person.

FAQ
-
RESONANCE is for dancers with previous experience who want to deepen their training in a consistent, community-focused environment.
You might be looking to:
Develop your Commercial and Hip Hop movement vocabulary
Improve choreography retention and execution
Build skills in musicality, grooving, and moveoment dynamics
Become more comfortable with freestyle and creative exploration
Develop your own movement quality and performance style
Build physical capacity and movement confidence
Challenge yourself in a supportive environment
Train consistently alongside the same group of people
You don’t have to be the most technically advanced person in the room. What matters more is that you’re self-motivated, open to learning, willing to take responsibility for your own growth, and committed to contributing to the collective.
-
RESONANCE is taught at an intermediate level.
You should have some previous dance experience and be reasonably comfortable learning choreography in a class environment. You should be able to pick up movement at a moderate pace and begin stacking new skills onto it.
That said, skill level alone doesn’t determine whether you’re a good fit.
We take a holistic approach to applications and are interested in your experience, your goals, your willingness to learn, and how you show up in community.
-
Nope. There is no traditional audition process.
Instead, you’ll complete an application and have a short meeting with the program director. We’ll talk about your dance experience, your goals, what you’re looking for, and whether RESONANCE feels like the right fit for you.
Applications open twice a year, before each training term.
-
Not at all.
Freestyle is an important part of RESONANCE, but we don’t expect you to walk in already knowing how to freestyle.
We approach freestyle as creative exploration, using prompts, task-based exercises, guided movement play, and different entry points into improvisation.
If freestyle makes you nervous, you’re not alone. You won’t be thrown into the deep end and expected to magically know what to do. We’ll build your comfort with it over time, while giving you different ways to participate and challenge yourself.
-
Life happens. We have a relaxed attendance policy because flexibility is part of accessibility. As long as you let us know you’ll be absent, there’s no issue and no explanation needed.
There is no homework or expectation that you catch up on missed classes. Choreography generally doesn’t carry from one week to the next, except when we’re working toward a creative project. You can come back the following week and pick up where you left off.
