Sovereign Apprentice
We are a challenging, but supportive commercial dance training ground inspired by the values and approach of the original Sovereign Corp Crew—artists who moved with integrity, intention, and a refusal to follow anyone else’s path. Sovereign Apprentice continues that spirit: self-governed, values-driven, and rooted in community care. We create space for dancers to train, take up space, and grow on their own terms.
We use the word Sovereign with care—for us, it’s not a title but a responsibility: to move with awareness, to unlearn systems of supremacy, and to honour the paths that came before us. Apprentice speaks to the nature of the journey. It reflects our commitment to practice, to process, to growth that unfolds over time. Our dancers are not just learning steps—they are shaping a foundation they’ll carry forward, wherever their path leads.
All classes and programs offered through Sovereign Apprentice Crew follow the same foundational framework—one that values growth over perfection, and process over product. Our curriculum is rooted in five key elements: choreography, musicality, textures and dynamic movement, grooving, and freestyle/creative exploration. Through these pillars, dancers deepen their relationship to movement, to music, and to each other.
At the heart of it all, we prioritize community over competition and honour the social history of dance over the modern commodification of skill. This is a space to remember where our dances come from, and imagine where they can take us

The Crew is our full length training program, training for 2hrs/week, for 5 months (or a full year at a discount). It offers the most in depth access to our curriculum. and the strongest sense of the community, with a consistent cohort and ongoing skill development.

Drop into a Sovereign Apprentice rehearsal or join a one-off workshop for a low-commitment way to train with the crew. These casual sessions are a great way to get a feel for the space, build skills, and connect with community.

Train 2 hours a week alongside a consistent cohort for either 5 months or a full year. Together, you’ll build your skills, push your artistry, and form the kind of tight-knit bonds that make this truly the heart of Sovereign Apprentice.
Drop In’s & Workshops
Whether you’re curious to see what we’re all about or just want to dive into training for a day, our drop-ins and workshops give you a chance to explore Sovereign Apprentice without a long-term commitment.
Once a month, we open the doors to our first Crew class of each new unit — whether that’s grooving, textures, or something else. These classes are by donation, and give you an opportunity to train with us for a full 2-hour session, meet the community, and get a taste of what makes Sovereign Apprentice special.
Even better? 100% of proceeds go straight to our financial assistance fund, helping dancers facing barriers access our programs at low or no cost.
